Nowadays, Media and Information plays an important role in
our society and have a great contributions in different aspect. It influences
people because of different media platforms and information that opens a lot of
opportunities to us. Media and information helps and influence people
positively and negatively. We can't deny the fact that we already depending
ourselves in the power of it. Media is the physical objects used to communicate
with and information is the processed data, with that it let people updated,
aware, gain information and also entertain. We can also connect with our friends,
express our concerns and thoughts regarding some issues and access online
markets. Everything become easier and efficient because of it and the help of
internet. It empower citizens by providing them with the competencies like knowledge and skills and giving them a
useful information. But, the power of media and information depend on how we're
going to use it. Since it is powerful,
some people abuse it. Users should be responsible on using media and know to
evaluate information that have been spreading online. They should know and
apply the proper netiquettes in order to become media and information literate.
Its power become abuse when people tend to take advantage and opportunities in
a negative way that affects people lives like cybercrime, human trafficking,
false news, citizen journalism, phishing and many illegal doings. We may
encountering issues regarding illegal use of media but we as a user can avoid
and control it through becoming a responsible user.
We must know our limitations and keep on mind the
consequences of every action we make. Since it is just a one click and easy to
access, we must think first and have concern in our safety and privacy. Users
must post reliable information and can evaluate if it is true or opinion. Do
not support controversial issues that lead to many conflicts. Be aware enough
in sharing, posting and uploading photos and videos. Do not expose a lot of
information about important details about you because people can easily access
it. They say “With great power comes great responsibility." We have a
control in using media and information, it's up to us on how we're going to use
it, either in a positive or negative way.
